September Writing Challenge

For many, the summer holidays are over, cooler temperatures descend upon us, and thoughts of winter creep over the horizon. We march towards our school and office buildings, heads bowed against the wind, ready to begin a new season of work and study. Or perhaps, a new adventure?

For some, this is a time to start something new, and for others, its time to return to something old, so why not make that the theme of this month’s Writing Challenge?

This time, we’ll be using the Continent, Currency, Fantasy Name and Writing Prompt Gens to write a story about Experience; someone starting something, or someone continuing something they’ve already started. Perhaps a poor, young farmer’s child, about to go on an epic adventure across the land, or a grizzled, old veteran, facing yet another dangerous situation?

The goal is to write a short story or chapter of at least 10,000 words before the 30th of the month using these Gens:

Continent: Use this to determine the setting of your story, and to influence the lifestyle of the people who live there.

Currency: Use this to help flesh out the economy of your setting, and also determine your character’s financial situation.

Fantasy Name (Optional): For either your Main Character or side characters, try giving them a unique name from this Gen

Writing Prompt: Use these words to help determine the important themes of the story.

You can write as many stories/chapters as you wish in any genres that you choose.

Send links to your stories to RanGen on Twitter and Facebook.
Or if you prefer, you can email your stories to RanGen HERE (please don’t send them as attachments; put the story in the body of the email), and write your name (it doesn’t need to be your real name) and “September Writing Challenge” in the subject line. If you’re having trouble sending long stories in one email, split it in two and clearly mark both as part 1 and part 2. Alternatively, you can create a free account on Wattpad and submit your stories there. Don’t forget to send me the link!

Be sure to include with your story the results of all the generators!
