This may be a day of fun and jokes for some, but on RanGen, today we’re getting serious! While you may be able to create wonderful stories when you have many things to choose from, what happens when you have only one option!? All dreams are broken, that’s what! Only the toughest will survive unscathed.
For this month’s Writing Challenge, the Family, Motive and Plot Device Gens will be used. However, this time around, I will provide you with the results you’ll be using!
The goal is to write a short story, between 10,000 and 15,000 words (about 10 – 16 pages), before the 25th of the month using the following details:
Your Main Character’s Family:
Parents
Mother: Andrea Glenn, 75 – Dislikes the MC
Unable to recognise maturity; still treats even fully grown offspring like children.
Father: Shan Glenn, 70 – Very close to the MC
Constantly worries about the well-being of other family members.
Brothers: 1
Samuel, 55 – Refuses to forgive the MC for a petty past incident
A bully as a child; a bully as an adult
Sisters: 1
Jan, 35
Likeable, friendly and humorous; inadvertently unreliable due to being very scatter-brained
Daughters: 1
Misty, 6 – Loves the MC
A real clown; is never unhappy, and always knows how to cheer others up
Grandparents
Maternal Grandmother: Janeka Roman, 90 – Likes the MC
Completely unshakeable; always remains calm and collected, even during major catastrophes.
Maternal Grandfather: Fred Sloan, 89
Has a deeply regrettable past; horrors from the past still trouble them now.
Paternal Grandmother: Jewel Rhodes, 79 (Deceased) – Likes the MC
Knows how to make every scenario a fun and memorable one.
Paternal Grandfather: Amadom Rhodes, 86 – Hates the MC
Mentally unstable; a source of conflict in the family.
Your Main Character’s Motive:
Driven by resentment, their goal is to end the life of another. A twist of fate stands in their way.
Your Story’s Plot Devices:
The main character’s child, a large stash of drugs, domestic abuse, a woman on the run, and a fancy restaurant.
Can you work with this template? How will our story differ from everyone else’s? Let us see what you can do!
As usual, if you can do them fast enough, you can write as many stories as you wish in any genres that you choose. As well as that, you can use the other generators freely to flesh out your stories. However, you may not use the Family, Motive or Plot Device Gens to change the above results! Don’t do it!
Send your stories to RanGen HERE (please don’t send them as attachments; put the story in the body of the email), and write your name (it doesn’t need to be your real name) and “April Writing Challenge…of DEATH!” in the subject line. If you’re having trouble sending long stories in one email, split it in two and clearly mark both as part 1 and part 2.
Alternatively, you can create a free account on Wattpad and submit your stories there. Don’t forget to send me the link!
Be sure to include with your story the results of any additional the generators!
