The August Writing Challenge begins here!
The Gens to be used for this challenge are: the City and the Quick Character Gens.
The objective of the challenge is to use the aforementioned Gens and turn their results into a short story between 5,000 and 10,000 words (about 6 – 11 pages). The specifications are as follows:
City Gen (Free use): Use this Gen to determine the location of your story. You may generate any number of cities and use one or more as the locations in your story.
You may NOT edit plots or mix-and-match city results.
Quick Character Gen (Free Use): Use this Gen to generate a character or two for your story. You may have as many characters as you like, and the characters can be main, secondary or background characters, as long as they are visible somewhere.
You are free to use any other Gens to help you with your story.
And so, the challenge is to write a story using whatever plot you care to come up with or generate, featuring any amount of characters and cities produced by the aforementioned Gens, using any other Gens for help and inspiration. Writing can be continued until the 22nd of August. Stories can be submitted at any point between the 1st and the 25th. You can do more than one story if you want.
Send your stories to RanGen HERE (please don’t send them as attachments; put the story in the body of the email), and write your name (it doesn’t need to be your real name) and “August Writing Challenge” in the subject line. If you’re having trouble sending long stories in one email, split it in two and clearly mark both as part 1 and part 2.
Be sure to include with your story the results of all the generators; the city/cities that you went with, the characters you were provided with, and the results of any other Gens that you use!
After the 25th, the stories will be made available to read on the site and the winners will be selected and announced on the site.
If you have any questions or comments, don’t forget you can contact me for that too. For those taking part in this writing challenge, good luck; you may well need it…
