As we step into the new month, there are two things of note happening; Ramadan, and April Fool’s Day; a time of SELF-SACRIFICE and DISCIPLINE, and a time of TRICKERY and FOOLISHNESS respectively. So, what else are we going to do other than use one (or both) of these themes for the focus of this month’s Writing Challenge?!
This time around, we’ll be using the City, Law, and Poison Gens.
The objective of the challenge is to use the aforementioned Gens and turn their results into a short story of at least 10,000 words before the end of the month.
Use the City Gen to determine a setting, the Law Gen to flesh out the location, and the Poison Gen to add a touch of danger to your story. What do the laws make life like in this city? And how does the poison fit into things? Is it all just a prank, or is someone going to have to pay a hefty price to put things right? Who knows..?
The challenge specifications are as follows:
City Gen: Use this Gen to produce a specific location for your story. It can be used as the primary city, a city they pass through, or a city they are trying to get to.
Law Gen: Use this Gen to further develop your city and determine what life is like for the residents and visitors.
Poison Gen: Use this Gen to add a source of chaos into your story. This will likely be a major driving force.
For each of the above Gens, the following ruleset applies:
Free use: Roll as many times as you like.
- You can mix and match results from different rolls.
- You can ignore parts of the roll that you do not like or need.
- You can change the results to suit your needs.
- You can add in your own details as you like.
- You can use the Simple or Detailedoption where applicable. Choose whatever options you like.
- You can also use results from any other Gen as you wish.
Submitting your story:
Be sure to include the generated results where possible so that we can see what you were working with.
