Time for the July Writing Challenge! This time, we’ll be using the Archetype, First Encounter and Personality Gens to focus on the character of the…well, the characters! Who are they, and how have they developed so far, or who will they be in the future?
The challenge is to write a short story or chapter of at least 10,000 words before the end of the month using these Gens:
Archetype Gen: Mix and merge the results of this Gen to produce characters to use in your story. But, rather than simply going with, for example, “A Goth, a Gold Digger and a Butcher“, i.e three separate people, consider merging the results into two people, (a gold digger and a Goth butcher) or even one person (a gold-digging Goth butcher)! This character can be your main character, a secondary character, the antagonist; the choice is up to you as long as they are featured in your story somewhere; the more, the merrier. Avoid mixing more than THREE archetypes per character.
First Encounter Gen (Free Use): Use this Gen to determine the main driving force between your main and a secondary character.
Personality Gen (Free Use): Use this Gen to determine your character’s personalities. You can use this for your protagonists, antagonists or important supporting characters.
You can write as many stories as you wish in any genres that you choose.
Send links to your stories to RanGen on Twitter and Facebook.
Or if you prefer, you can email your stories to RanGen HERE (please don’t send them as attachments; put the story in the body of the email), and write your name (it doesn’t need to be your real name) and “July Writing Challenge” in the subject line. If you’re having trouble sending long stories in one email, split it in two and clearly mark both as part 1 and part 2. Alternatively, you can create a free account on Wattpad and submit your stories there. Don’t forget to send me the link!
Be sure to include with your story the results of all the generators!
