The theme of this month’s challenge is Nerve-wracking, and there are basic restrictions in place for the rules.
The objective of the challenge is to use the aforementioned Gens and turn their results into a short story of at least 10,000 words before the end of the month.
The challenge specifications are as follows:
Traits and Quirks Gen (Unlimited rerolls): Use this Gen to really flesh out your characters and make them more interesting/problematic.
Murphy’s Law Gen (Unlimited rerolls): Use this Gen to add the primary sources of conflict to your story. You can use as many events as you like, positive or negative from any genre.
Fantasy Race Gen (Unlimited rerolls): Use this Gen to produce a distinct racial/ethnic group in your story. They can be people who are active in the story, some mythical, lost race, or perhaps your characters are members themselves.
For each of the above Gens, the following ruleset applies:
Non-restricted use: Roll as many times as you like.
- Do not mix and match results from different rolls.
- Do not change the results.
- You may ignore some generated details but must use a reasonable amount of the rest.
- You may add additional details as you like.
- You can use the Simple or Detailed option where applicable. Choose whatever options you like.
- You can use results from any other Gen as you like.
- You can also use results from any other Gen as you wish, as long as they don’t change your existing details. Existing details from this Gen override details from additional Gens.
Submitting your story:
Be sure to include the generated results where possible so that we can see what you were working with. Please include a name with your story (real or a username) and age (or age-range), and let me know if you’re happy for me to share/quote your story. (Your story belongs to you though; I’m not going to run off with it! :D)
You must mention if your story is NSFW or if it includes sensitive themes or gore/violence, etc. Give your story an age rating if necessary!
Sharing your story:
Upload your story to your preferred service then share the URL. Post the link on your social media accounts and include the hashtag #RangenWritingChallenge, so the world can read your story! Don’t forget to tag me!
